Today is the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In September 1943 the Allies invaded mainland Fascist Italy, which surrendered on September 8th 1943, starting the Italian Civil War which lasted until May 2nd, 1945.

In February 1945 the Nazi Germany was invaded by the Soviet Union from the east and in March 1945 from the west by the Western Allies. It surrendered on the night of May 8th/9th, 1945.

On August 6th, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. On August 9th, 1945 the Soviet Union invaded Manchuria and Korea, hours before the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. On September 2th, 1945, at 9:04 Tokyo Time, the Japanese Empire surrendered without an invasion.

The complex pre-history of WWII led to the deadliest war in human history, with an unknown total number of wounded. It must never be repeated - Lest We Forget.
